Introduction

Hello! I'm so glad you are taking the time to visit my blog. Let me introduce myself...

I grew up just outside of a small French farming community in the heart of the Canadian Prairies. The youngest in an Anglo, non-farming, non-catholic family in a Franco, super catholic, farming community made for some interesting experiences for sure. Some great, some not so great. But everyone has similar experiences no matter where they are from.

Now I am living in the city, and pretty much hating it. Oh there are definitely some things I appreciate, like stores being open past 6 pm, and open on Sunday's and Monday's. I will miss that once I make my way back out to the country, but I won't miss the noise, the lights, the horrible pollution and smell of pollution.... I can't wait to get back out, which is kind of funny, because when I was younger, I felt the same way about living in the country.

I am a graduate of  Red River College, and the University of Manitoba. I studied photography first, then Fine Arts and Russian Literature. All of which is completely wasted in my current profession - Retail Specialist. Don't get me wrong, I love my job, but part of me wondered why I had to prove to the world that I could, indeed, get into art school even though I had no formal training. Although I am super proud of my education, I would gladly advise anyone considering going to any post-secondary education to definitely go, but try to do it without student loans....

Now I am working in a super-awesome job! At an outdoor supply store, where we specialize in human-propelled water crafts - canoes, kayaks and SUP's - camping gear, and technical clothing. I also am a member of the first all-ladies archery club in Winnipeg - Bows, Broads & Bullseyes -, love knitting, tunisian crochet and pretty much anything fiber related, and have just been voluntold, I mean asked to volunteer, for my niece's Sparks groups. (How can you say no to a six year old who just started a great adventure in Girl Guides that you won't help keep her troop from folding because the leaders had some unexpected life changes?)

So, what are some of the things I am hoping to share with this blog?

The biggest thing right now is my culinary adventure into the world of food allergies. As an adult I was diagnosed with a fish allergy, and potentially a gluten allergy. My blood test came back negative, but they also came back negative for my fish allergy, and two anaphylactic reactions later, the allergist declared me allergic to all kinds of fish. So the fact that my gluten allergy tests came back negative don't assure me.

And possibly I will share some of my knitting adventures with you.

And I definitely will share my adventure of working towards building a sustainable, and eco-friendly life, and home. I have been researching all about sustainable living, eco-tourism, and alternative housing options. Living on the prairies, which has a very harsh climate, is challenging. If any of my experiences in this endeavor help anyone else with their dream of living a simple life in the same conditions, then this will be worth it.

That's all for now! Hope you keep reading!
